CHANGING LIVES LUNCHEON supporting DATA programs

Changing Lives

Luncheon

To benefit the programs and services of DATA

Dear Friend:

On Thursday, April 17, 2008, the Drug Abuse Treatment Association (DATA) will hold its fourth annual Changing Lives Luncheon at the prestigious Frenchman's Reserve in Palm Beach Gardens. This spring luncheon is becoming known as one of the "must attend" charitable events of the season. The Changing Lives Luncheon benefits the valuable programs and services provided by DATA for children, adolescents, and their families who are experiencing problems with substance abuse and/or juvenile delinquency.

We are delighted to announce that Hanley Center will serve as the Presenting Sponsor of the luncheon that will feature recovering addict and former Dallas Cowboys football player Thomas "Hollywood" Henderson as our guest and keynote speaker. During his colorful seven-year career as a top NFL player, Henderson played in three Super Bowls. On the field he could woo the crowd with his rare talent. Off the field, he attracted the masses with humor and wit. This combination of talent and flair landed him on the cover of Newsweek in 1979. Henderson was one of the stars of America's Team, starting on the 1977 Super Bowl XII championship team and was a 1979 Pro Bowl selection. He spent his final NFL seasons splitting time between the San Francisco 49ers and Houston Oilers in 1980 before ending his career in the 1981-82 season with the Miami Dolphins. His football career was cut short by alcoholism and a drug addiction that nearly killed him. Clean and sober for more than 23 years, Henderson has been a national lecturer, author and educational filmmaker on the topics of addiction and recovery for more than two decades.

Another highlight of the luncheon is the announcement of the Changing Lives Award recipient. This award was created to recognize an individual's commitment to substance abuse treatment and longtime support. This year, we are pleased to say that Hanley Center CEO Terry Allen is our honoree. As former executive director of the 45th Street Mental Health Center, Allen has a long-standing relationship with DATA and was instrumental in securing the land and the financing for the Walter D. Kelly Treatment Center in West Palm Beach.

Past recipients of the Changing Lives Award are local Attorney Robert D. Critton, Martin County Sheriff Robert L. Crowder, and Dr. Joan Barice, a national leader in addiction medicine.

We want to make sure that you have the first opportunity to become a sponsor for the event. Please take a moment to read the attached sponsorship opportunities. Your support of this luncheon will mean so much to the hundreds of children and families we serve in our community every day.

Your response by February 1 will ensure that you are included in early publicity. Should you have any questions, please feel free to call DATA at (561) 743-1034.

Thank you so much for your time and consideration. We look forward to your participation, and welcoming you as a friend of DATA.

Sincerely,

Elaine Fitzgerald
